Why Does My Son Think He Owns His Computer? 4 Likely Reasons

Learning Why Does My Son Think He Owns His Computer is important for any parent with potential possession problems.

As a parent, you want to provide your child with the best of everything. You also want them to be able to enjoy what they like whenever they want to.

However, there should be a balance between what they want and the responsibilities they have. This is especially true about the things they have and spend most of their time with, like the computer.

So if you find yourself wondering why does my son think he owns his computer, here’s why it could be happening and what you can do about it.

Why Does My Son Think He Owns His Computer?

The simplest answer to this is that your son feels entitled to his computer. He may feel like he is the only one who can use the computer or do it whenever he likes. It could be a result because no one challenges his entitlement and sees nothing wrong with it.

However, entitled children are rude, argumentative and have no respect for people or their things. So if you want your son not to turn out this way, this is what you should do:

  1. Don’t let him get away with bad behavior regarding the computer. This could be something as simple as not letting other people use it. Make sure that your son understands that such behavior has consequences, including taking the computer away.
  2. If your son is used to playing on the computer whenever he wants, then it’s counterproductive to his development. Instead, work with him to develop a screen time schedule that he can keep up with. This should also give him time to get all his other activities done. Alternatively, you can have him work for his computer time by doing chores around the house. This will help him learn that things in life don’t come easy and that you have to work hard to get what you want.
  3. Don’t back down or get angry even when your son is throwing a tantrum. Just stick with the computer use rules that you’ve implemented and give it time to stick. Soon, your son will learn how to behave and not be entitled to his computer or anything else.
  4. If you have a hard time saying No to your son, don’t worry! Just keep in mind that you’re doing this for his good. It may take a few tries, and you may even need some help, but it will get easier to reinforce the limits you’ve set for your son and his computer.
