It is normal to feel like you have a huge pregnant belly or look more fat than before.

You and your healthcare provider can assess the size and position of your baby during your first trimester through pelvic exams and ultrasounds.

Approximately 20 weeks after conception, your provider will measure the fundal height of your uterus, the distance from your pubic bone to the top.

You may have amniotic fluid accumulation, or you may have macrosomia, a giant baby than average, or you may have simply gained a little weight in your midsection.)

An ob-gyn or midwife will investigate to make sure everything is healthy if you measure larger than usual for your stage of pregnancy. 

2. Do I Have A Bigger Baby Because I Have A Huge Pregnant Belly?

It is not necessary. Having a big belly or showing early doesn’t mean that you’re destined to deliver a baby that’s bigger than average.

Some babies indeed are macrosomic and are just measuring more significantly than average.

Even though excessive weight gain during pregnancy can sometimes result in larger birth weights, a more considerable baby bump doesn’t necessarily equate to a large baby.

The comments about your “huge” size can be hard to ignore or not bother you.

There is also a tendency for some women to be criticized for not appearing pregnant enough.

Take heart knowing there isn’t a correct size for a pregnant belly. So long as you are told that everything is okay by your healthcare provider, it doesn’t matter how big your stomach appears to the rest of the world.

Your build, how much weight you gain, and what kind of food you’re craving will determine how quickly your belly grows and your pregnant belly’s size.

First-time mothers are unlikely to notice much change during the first few weeks of pregnancy.

During the first 16 weeks of pregnancy, even first-time moms should notice some belly expansion.

During pregnancy, your stomach begins to get hard above your pubic bone.

4. Will My Pregnant Belly Grow Every Week?

Week by week, you will see how much bigger you are once your belly has popped.

Doctors use this measure to check your baby’s growth rate during pregnancy. It’s called the fundal height.

It’s recommended that the fundal height increases by about a centimeter a week.
